WHY DO CANADIAN CONSUMERS WANT RAW MILK?

There is plenty of evidence that probiotic-rich raw milk is a health-enhancing food and that its vital elements are destroyed by pasteurization and processing. Raw milk therapy is currently a well-used protocol in German hospitals, just as it was in the early 1900’s at the then named Mayo Foundation when the ‘raw milk cure’ was used as successful therapy for hopeless cases.

Raw milk can truly be a life-saving food and has been shown to help with asthma, allergies and many other conditions. And the taste - delicious! In most countries of the world, this traditional, real and unprocessed food is widely available. Why not in Canada?

When I first learned that a large group of Canadian physicians had signed on to a petition to change Canada’s food guide what really grabbed my attention was a reference to this book in the open letter attached to the petition: “Price, Weston. Nutrition and Physical Degeneration: A Comparison of Primitive and Modern Diets and Their Effects.”

The book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Dr. Weston A. Price was first published in 1939. It is THE book that should be compulsory reading for anyone involved with policy-making for health and nutrition. It was wonderful to see that this book was cited in support of the petition.

I’m a chapter leader for the Victoria Weston A. Price Foundation® (WAPF). I contacted the physician who started the petition, Dr. Barbra Allen Bradshaw, and asked her if WAPF could assist in her efforts to promote the petition. She was happy to accept the offer of help.

I had the most interesting conversation with a very elderly lady from Germany the other day. Of course, we got talking food. I guess I made an assumption when I asked her for advice about making authentic sauerkraut. To my surprise this 96 year woman from the home of sauerkraut had never once made it. She said she recalled going to the cellar as a child to bring some up for her mother, but she never learned how to make it herself.

She went on to say that she knows just how much we have lost. She recalled being told by her physician in the 1940's when she was having her first baby that she should not breast feed – formula was proven to be much healthier for baby! She said, as she shook her head in dismay, that she and all of her friends just wanted to be good mothers and they automatically obeyed doctor's orders.

What's 70 Years? In the big scheme of things, seventy years of human existence is nothing.

Except if it has been the last seventy years.

LET'S TURN THIS AROUND

The end of the Second World War saw the beginning of the Baby Boomer years (1946 - 1964). Everyone was having babies, and the vast majority of children in North America were doing very well.

They certainly had better health than what is seen in children today. Things like childhood cancer, asthma, adult onset diabetes in children, obesity, life-threatening food allergies, autism and that whole spectrum of disorders were rarely seen. It's astonishing how things have changed in just 70 years.

It's almost impossible to believe, in our modern world with every convenience and plenty of food, that the health of our children is in extreme peril.

The reality is that there is a crisis in children's health as never before seen. Researchers predict that in 15 years, half of all children in N. America will have autism (80% of boys).

VAXXED Shown in a school - oh my!

I saw the movie Vaxxed for the second time the other day. That's not so unusual, but what is different is where I saw it this time. It was screened in the community theatre at a local school here on Vancouver Island, and that has done more than raise a few eyebrows.

In the community of Sooke, just outside of Victoria, Awareness Film Night's announcement of plans to show Vaxxed in a local school's community theatre, caused a bit of a stir. AFN's mandate for the past 22 years has been to invite our community's film-goers to question what they see, hear and read via the mainstream media. They have done a fantastic job of showing many excellent, controversial films. Vaxxed could be considered the most controversial of them all. Unfortunately though, several school trustees have now voiced their concern that by showing the film on school premises, the reputation of the School Board has been tarnished.
